Cowes Lifeboat to the Rescue After Raft Fiasco in Stormy Solent
Yacht “Thunderflash” Struggles with Wayward Life Raft
The RNLI Cowes lifeboat was launched just after 6pm on Friday evening after a dramatic call for help in the tempestuous Solent. The UK Coastguard scrambled the crew when the yacht “Thunderflash” sent out a mayday. Those onboard accidentally deployed their life raft, which then acted as a sea anchor, stubbornly holding the vessel sideways to the rough waves.
Risky Sideways Drift Forces Quick Action
This sideways drift, known as being “beam on” to the sea, can be extremely dangerous and uncomfortable for any boat. After assessing the situation, the lifeboat crew and yacht skipper agreed on a swift plan: cut the life raft loose so the yacht could sail on safely while the lifeboat recovered the rogue raft.
Fast Thinking and Teamwork Save the Day
Thanks to quick decisions and expert teamwork, Cowes Lifeboat secured the raft without incident. Meanwhile, “Thunderflash” continued its journey west, free from the perilous drag of the floating obstacle. Another rescue mission done and dusted by the brave RNLI crew!
