John Harris, 41, from Pound Hill, Crawley, has been sentenced to three years and three months for stalking and controlling a woman known to him. Over a period of harassment, Harris took photos inside the victim’s home, demanded access to her phone messages and social media, and constantly monitored her whereabouts. The victim reported living in fear, stating, “I lived every day watching over my shoulder.” At Lewes Crown Court on 28 April, Harris was also subjected to a restraining order preventing any contact with the woman.
Relentless Harassment
Harris repeatedly bombarded the victim with unwanted messages and contact, escalating his controlling behaviour. His actions caused significant alarm and distress, severely impacting the victim’s peace of mind.
Threatening Violence
On one occasion, Harris escalated his intimidation by bringing a hammer to the victim’s address, heightening the fear and demonstrating the seriousness of his threats.
Legal Consequences
In addition to stalking, causing serious alarm or distress and coercive control, Harris admitted to possession of cannabis at an earlier hearing. The court imposed a restraining order to keep him away from the victim, reinforcing his conviction and sentencing.
