Met Police Officer Booted After Guilty Plea to Child Sex Charges
A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been sacked without notice following a gross misconduct hearing after pleading guilty to multiple child sex offences.
Shocking Abuse of Trust in Schools Role
The accelerated hearing, chaired by Assistant Commissioner Barbara Grey on 9 March, found PC Hussain Chehab, attached to the North Area Command Unit, violated professional standards through “discreditable conduct.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, who leads policing in Enfield where Chehab served, said: “Following his criminal conviction it is right that PC Chehab is formally dismissed from the Met. PC Chehab committed the vilest of offences and abused his position of trust in the most despicable of ways.”
“Some offences involving indecent photos occurred while he was a Safer Schools officer at a secondary school in Enfield between May and August 2021. He was immediately removed from duty once allegations surfaced. We’ve worked closely with the school and local authorities to ensure no further incidents were missed.”
“A thorough review found no red flags in his vetting before joining the police or starting his schools role. While no direct evidence links his offending to his role, we continue working with schools and communities to rebuild trust after the damage caused.”
Timeline of Offences and Arrest
- On 24 January, a 16-year-old girl contacted police about a relationship with PC Chehab that allegedly began when she was 15.
- He was arrested on 24 August 2021; digital devices were seized.
- Placed on restricted duties with no contact allowed with children or schools.
- Indecent images found on his devices led to a further arrest and suspension on 28 October.
- Analysis revealed messages with a 14-year-old girl, who later confirmed a sexual relationship starting when she was just 14.
- On 13 September 2022, Chehab was formally charged for the offences.
Chehab Permanently Barred From Policing
PC Hussain Chehab will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List, blocking any future employment in policing, local policing bodies, independent oversight, or fire and rescue services.
