Delta Flight 876 Smoke Scare Forces Emergency Evacuation

Drama erupted aboard Delta Air Lines Flight 876 on Monday as smoke filled the cabin just after takeoff, sparking a tense emergency evacuation. The Boeing 717-200, carrying 94 passengers and 5 crew, was headed to Columbia, South Carolina but had to return to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Smoke Triggers Rapid Return and Slide Evacuation

Crew spotted a strange haze in the cockpit soon after leaving the runway and immediately declared an emergency. The plane turned back and touched down safely around 9:00am local time, with air traffic control clearing the skies for a priority landing.

Passengers were quickly evacuated via the aircraft’s emergency slides. Shocking images showed some stranded on the left wing clutching their belongings as they waited for help.

Delta Spokesperson Confirms Safety Priority

“The flight crew followed procedures to return to Atlanta when a haze inside the aircraft was observed after departure. Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologise to our customers for the experience,”

On the ground, passengers were swiftly ferried back to the terminal by ground transport. Delta is currently rebooking all affected travellers on alternative flights.
