Raab Under Fire: Official Probe Lands on PM’s Desk
The spotlight is on Dominic Raab after an official investigation into his conduct was handed to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Rishi’s Risky Pick
Sunak appointed Raab as Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary back in October. But the decision is now under scrutiny.
Culture of Fear Allegations
In November, former staff accused Raab of fostering a “culture of fear” in his departments. Raab slapped down the accusations and even called for an investigation into himself.
Despite his defiance, more claims emerged. Reports revealed up to 24 complaints filed against the deputy PM.
Did Sunak Know?
The Prime Minister’s knowledge of Raab’s behaviour is in question. A source told political reporter Beth Rigby that Sunak was informed of Raab’s “unacceptable behaviour” before appointing him.
Downing Street insists Sunak had no knowledge of any “formal complaints” at the time but wouldn’t rule out informal grumbles.
Political Fallout
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer slammed Sunak for ignoring warnings about Raab’s conduct.
Raab’s downfall follows the January sacking of Tory party chairman Nadhim Zahawi for breaching the ministerial code over his tax affairs. The Tory ranks have never looked shakier.
