UK Holidaymakers Shocked as Old Passport Expiry Rules Scrap Extra Months
If your passport was issued before Brexit with extra validity months tacked on, those bonus months are now scrap. That’s right – those “extra” months no longer count.
When Does Your Passport Really Expire?
For example, if your passport was issued on 21st June 2012 and officially expires on 21st December 2022, your new actual expiry date is now 21st June 2022.
EU Travel Rules Getting Tougher
- Most EU countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.
- Some countries only require 3 months, but either way, you could be forced to cut your trip short.
- In the example above, the latest safe return date would be 21st December 2021, not the official expiry date in 2022.
