Firefighters from across Hampshire have rushed to a huge blaze ripping through Southampton’s Empress Road. The alarm was raised at 11:50am with crews from St Mary’s, Redbridge, and Hightown tackling the inferno.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue deployed a massive force – 79 personnel and ten fire pumps – to bring the blaze under control. They warned this will be a lengthy fight, with multiple businesses impacted.
“It would appear the businesses are all interlinked but luckily, everyone was out when we got here,” confirmed Hampshire Fire and Rescue.
“The thick black smoke is from tyres, grime, and oil. The roof of the building has collapsed.”
