Shock as light aircraft crashes at Heveningham Hall
Emergency services rush to the scene
Police were scrambled around 5:15pm today, Thursday 6 July, after a light aircraft went down in the grounds of Heveningham Hall. Suffolk Police joined ambulance crews and fire rescue teams who quickly arrived to manage the aftermath.
Pilot airlifted with serious injuries
The lone pilot, a man, suffered serious injuries and is currently being airlifted to hospital. Thankfully, no one else was on board the plane when it crashed.
Landing attempt believed to be fatal moment
Initial reports suggest the pilot was trying to land the aircraft when the crash happened. The exact cause remains under investigation.
Investigation underway at cordoned-off site
An area around Heveningham Hall has been sealed off while officers work at the scene. The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been notified and will lead the probe into what caused the crash.
