Up to 13 emergency vehicles and specialist teams raced to Montana Close, Sanderstead, on the outskirts of Croydon tonight (Sunday) after multiple people struggled to breathe following a chemical spillage.

Massive Emergency Response

Police, fire crews, paramedics, and HART specialists descended on the scene amid fears of a hazardous chemical reaction. Three fire engines, five ambulances, and HART units remain on site as the situation unfolds.

Evacuations and Road Closures

Residents near the spill have been evacuated for their safety. Authorities are yet to confirm whether the spillage was accidental or deliberate. Montana Close remains closed, and drivers are urged to avoid the area until further notice.

Official Statement

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers were called at 6.17pm on Sunday, 9 August to reports of people taken unwell at a residential address on Montana Close in Croydon.

“Emergency services attended. Several people were provided with medical attention.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
