Crash Chaos on Forest Road Blocks Key Route in Newport
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene of a collision on Forest Road, Newport, this afternoon (Monday). The smash, involving a silver Citroen Picasso and a green RAV4, blocked the main road to Yarmouth, causing traffic chaos.
Road Blocked After Citroen’s Rear Wheel Detaches
The Citroen’s rear wheel came off at the crossroads with Betty Haunt Lane and Whitehouse Road, completely blocking the junction. Authorities urged drivers to seek alternative routes to avoid the bottleneck.
Bus Route Diverted as Traffic Grinds to a Halt
Southern Vectis announced the 14:45 Route 7 via Shalfleet will divert through Middle Road to Calbourne and Newbridge, rejoining the normal route at the Horse & Groom pub, to dodge the blockage.
Main Road Reopens, No Serious Injuries Reported
By 3:47pm, Forest Road was reopened after police recovery teams removed both vehicles. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Joint Roads Policing and Armed Response Team officers remained on-site during the recovery. Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported.
