Eight Fire Units Battle Fierce Field Fire Near Chelmsford
A huge fire broke out in a 10-acre field in Danbury, Essex, after a combine harvester caught alight on Monday night. Essex County Fire & Rescue Service rushed eight fire crews to the scene at 9.20pm to tackle the spreading flames.
Rapid Spread Threatened Neighbouring Crops
The blaze quickly engulfed nearby crops, risking massive damage. Firefighters fought tooth and nail to contain the inferno, finally bringing it under control by 11pm. Crews stayed overnight on Ludgores Lane, ensuring the area was safe and fully secured.
Accidental Fire Cause, Fire Service Praise Quick Response
The fire is believed to have started accidentally. Craig McLellan, group manager at Essex Fire Service, praised his team’s “swift action” in surrounding the flames and stopping the fire from spreading further. He also thanked the local farmer for their invaluable help during the operation.
Firefighting Efforts Required Water Relay System
Due to the rural setting and size of the blaze, crews set up a water relay system to keep the fire under control, focusing efforts around the burning combine harvester. The intense operation prevented what could have been a devastating loss of crops.
