Fake Cops Target Drivers Near Maidstone: Police Issue Warning
Drivers near Maidstone are on high alert after two alarming police impersonation incidents. Kent Police have launched a probe after impostors posed as officers to stop unsuspecting motorists.
Shady Stop Lights Drivers to Guard Against
The first incident unfolded just before midnight on January 29, 2025. A woman and her passenger driving between Kingswood and Chart Sutton were flagged down by a suspicious car flashing its headlights followed by unauthorised blue lights.
Quick-Thinking Motorist Escapes Danger
A man then approached their vehicle with a torch, but the alert female driver spotted two others in the suspect car who weren’t genuine officers. Realising the ruse, she sped away and reported the scary encounter at a nearby service station.
Second Incident Rocks Sutton Valence
Just a short distance away near Chartway Street by a local golf club, another motorist fell victim to a similar fake police car. The impersonator conducted an unauthorised vehicle check before letting the driver go.
Kent Police Speak Out
“These may seem like pranks but they’re serious threats to public safety,” said Inspector Rob Dell of Kent Police. “Anyone caught up in this would be frightened stiff.”
Police Launch Full Investigation, Release CCTV
The suspect vehicle is described as a Volkswagen Golf. CCTV images showing the blonde, slim-built primary suspect have now been made public.
