Thick Smoke Seen Billowing from Roof of Under-Construction Building
Thick black smoke poured from the roof of the £100 million, seven-storey office block, still under construction and due to open next year. Firefighters raced to the scene to tackle the flames.
A spokesperson from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service said: “Five fire engines from Blackpool, Bispham, St Annes, and South Shore, plus the aerial ladder platform from Blackpool, were deployed to a building fire on Cookson Street.”
Blaze Quickly Brought Under Control, Roads Closed Nearby
On arrival, crews found fire at the top of the building and used foam to fight the blaze. The fire was quickly brought under control, but firefighters remain on site damping down hotspots.
Police have temporarily closed roads around Cookson Street as fire crews continue operations. The public is advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
