Blazing Inferno at Brighton’s Royal Albion Hotel
A fierce fire has ripped through the Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton, with flames bursting from a fourth-floor window and thick smoke clouding the sky. The dramatic blaze triggered an urgent emergency response from East Sussex Fire and Rescue crews.
Massive Firefighting Effort Underway
Firefighters from Preston Circus, Newhaven, Hove, Lewes, Eastbourne, and Pevensey were scrambled to the scene on Old Steine at 5:24pm on July 15, 2023, after reports of smoke. Ten fire engines, plus special kit like Ariel Ladder Platforms, a bulk water carrier, and an all-terrain vehicle, have been deployed to tackle the blaze head-on.
Four firefighters, decked out in breathing apparatus, are fighting the flames using two main jets and high-reaching ladders. Meanwhile, road closures on Old Steine and parts of Kings Road are causing disruption. Authorities have told locals to steer clear and find alternative routes.
Situation Continues Into the Night
As of 9:30pm, 15 fire engines remain on site. Crews are still working hard with a High Volume Pump and three Ariel Ladder Platforms to bring the fire under control. An Incident Command Centre has been set up, with teams coordinating alongside the Environment Agency and Water Board.
Strong winds have made conditions tougher for firefighters, who are expected to battle the blaze through the night. Police and fire services have evacuated neighbouring buildings as a precaution. No injuries have been reported so far.
Officials Urge Caution and Avoidance
The cause of the fire is still unknown. East Sussex Fire and Rescue is monitoring the situation closely and promises regular updates on their website. Meanwhile, residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area due to heavy smoke.
