Fire Sparks Panic in St Lawrence, Ventnor

A sailor raised the alarm this afternoon after spotting smoke and flames in the St Lawrence area of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Fire crews quickly swung into action.

Firefighters Battle Rapidly Spreading Blaze

Two fire engines from Newport, Ryde, Shanklin, and East Cowes, plus two water carriers from Freshwater and Ventnor, have been deployed. The fire covers an area of 50 by 50 metres and is blazing uphill fast, a fire service spokesperson revealed.

Air Support Called in as Fire Grows

Fire chiefs have summoned National Air Support from Bournemouth to help track and tackle the spreading flames. Guests at the nearby Old Park Hotel have been told to remain indoors for safety.
