Blaze Breaks Out in Southampton Tower Block on New Year’s Day
30 Firefighters Rush to High-Rise Flat Fire
Fire crews were scrambled to tackle a fire in a Southampton tower block this afternoon. Around 30 firefighters arrived at 1 Towers after a blaze broke out at 1.30pm on New Year’s Day, Sunday January 1st.
The fire started in a kitchen on the 17th floor, reportedly from a grill pan. It was quickly brought under control and confined to the kitchen area, preventing the fire from spreading.
Smoke Inhalation Patient Rescued Amid Swift Response
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and rescued a person suffering from smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no other flats were evacuated during the incident.
Firefighters Tackle Blaze Using Tower Block’s Dry Riser
The blaze was doused using a hose reel connected to the tower block’s internal dry riser system. Firefighters came from 1, Hightown, and St Mary’s stations, with support crews from Eastleigh joining the effort.
Transport Disruptions as Emergency Services Attend
Buses were diverted around the area while emergency teams worked on the scene. The fire is believed to have started accidentally, with no further injuries reported.
