Hero Teen Raises Alarm After Early Morning Garage Blaze
A heroic 16-year-old sprang into action after spotting a fire in his neighbours’ garage at Myrtle Green just after 4.30am. Playing on his PlayStation, the boy heard banging, saw the flames, and ran to wake the family. Thanks to him, the couple and their two kids escaped unharmed.
Firefighters Tackle Intense Blaze
Three fire engines rushed to the scene. Firefighters suited up with breathing apparatus and used a main jet, hose reel, and a positive pressure ventilation fan to battle the fire. Investigators suspect the blaze started accidentally in a fridge freezer or tumble dryer inside the garage.
Fire crews battled the fire for over two and a half hours. They’ll return later today to check the property and advise nearby residents on fire safety.
Critical Fire Safety Tips from Fire Crew
- Always have working smoke alarms installed at home.
- Keep plenty of space around tumble dryers to ensure proper ventilation.
- If a fire breaks out, get out immediately and find a safe spot nearby.
- Call 999 and wait for the fire service – never re-enter the building or try to fight the fire yourself.
