Fire Rips through Car Workshop in Byfleet after Van’s Fuel line explodes

Six fire appliances are at single-storey car workshop blaze in Byfleet with the risk of a further explosion from an Oxy Acetylene cylinder If you live nearby keep windows and doors shut that’s the advice from the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service this afternoon. Police have closed Parvis Road in West Byfleet as thirty fire fighters tackle the blaze. Camphill Road,Pyford Road and Highfield Road are also effected closure. Traffic is grid locked in the area as driver seek alternative routes.

No one has been hurt as a result of the fire and everyone has many to escape it is understood. Fire crews from Painshill were called to a van fire just after 1.45pm on Wednesday afternoon but required further crews from Woking, Walton, Esher, Guildford and Chertsey to assist in tackling the blaze. Surrounding Businesses in the area have also been evacuated. The van was well alight on crews arrival and had spread to the workshop. Nearby residents said they heard a number of explosion. This was due to can of breaking cleaning fuild that had been caught in the blaze. It is understood that this helped to fuel the fire. Crews also had to tackle waste oil in the workshop that had caught alight.
