Massive Blaze at Braintree Recycling Site
Firefighters battled a huge fire at a waste recycling centre near Cordons Farm, Braintree, as around 35 tonnes of rubbish went up in flames. Crews from Braintree, Dunmow, and Coggeshall were scrambled early this morning and fought the blaze well into the evening.
Hard-Fought Firefighting Efforts
Watch Manager Sharon Blute hailed the on-call crews for their tireless work tackling tough hotspots despite limited water supplies.
“Crews have worked hard, with difficult water supply, to tackle the fire hotspots in the rubbish. There is no risk of smoke to the community, and relief crews will remain to monitor the scene.”
Earlier, locals were urged to keep windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke, but firefighters have now confirmed the danger has passed.
On-Call Heroes in Action
All responding firefighters are on-call professionals living or working near their fire stations, ready to jump into action at a moment’s notice. Essex Fire and Rescue is keen to recruit more locals to join their ranks.
“If you live or work within five minutes of an on-call fire station, you could be an on-call firefighter too. Search ‘Join Essex Fire’ to find out more.”
Watchful Eyes as Night Falls
Relief crews remain on site damping down hotspots to prevent reignition overnight. Authorities have yet to confirm the cause, but an investigation may be launched once the area is deemed safe.
