Man Rescued From Blaze in London Flat After Smoking Fire
Fire Breaks Out in Ground Floor Flat
A fire tore through part of a three-roomed flat on the ground floor of a converted semi-detached house in London. The blaze caused significant damage before firefighters arrived on the scene.
Heroic Rescue by Firefighters
Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, rushed into a bathroom inside the burning flat and rescued a man trapped by smoke and flames. London Ambulance Service crews took him to hospital for treatment.
Cause Linked to Careless Smoking
The fire was spotted when a neighbour in the first-floor flat noticed smoke filling their kitchen. Investigators believe the blaze started due to unsafe disposal of smoking materials.
London Fire Brigade Issues Stern Warning
“We’d rather you didn’t smoke at all, but if you are a smoker it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it. If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy your home but also cost you your life,” warned a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
Firefighters Battle Blaze for Over an Hour
The Brigade was called just before 1pm and brought the fire under control by 2.13pm. Three fire engines and roughly 15 firefighters from Hammersmith, Chiswick, and Richmond stations tackled the inferno.
