Firefighters Rescue Stranded Goat from Cliff Edge in Kenley

Meet Gandalf, the usually nimble goat who found himself in a hairy situation after getting separated from his herd and stuck 35 metres up a steep cliff on Godstone Road, Kenley.

Drone Helps Firefighters Save the Day

Sub Officer Darren Joy was at the scene and said, “The goat had been spotted the day before, but we don’t know how long he’d been stuck. There was no clear way back up for him – it was steep.”

The quick-thinking firefighters deployed a drone to distract Gandalf, allowing crews to carefully loop a line around him and haul him to safety. “Thankfully, he was very well-behaved and came away unhurt,” Joy added.

Fire Brigade Ready to Assist Animals in Distress

“Firefighters love animals and are always ready to help,” said Joy. “We urge the public not to risk their own safety trying to rescue animals but call us first. We have the specialist equipment to handle tricky rescues like this.”

The fire brigade received the call at 9.28am. Crews from Wimbledon, Edmonton, and Station 1 worked tirelessly until the rescue wrapped up at 12.35pm.
