Chimney Fire Sparks Drama on Guildford Outskirts
Firefighters raced to a chimney fire at a home in Wonersh, just outside Guildford, on Saturday evening. Two fire engines from Guildford were scrambled after a blaze broke out on The Street at around 7.30pm.
Family Safe, Fire Quickly Extinguished
A parent and their baby were quickly moved to a neighbour’s house while crews tackled the flames. The fire was under control by 8pm, with fire crews leaving shortly after.
Common Chimney Blazes Strike Again
A local fire service spokesman said the fire was nothing serious, calling it a routine chimney problem often seen in older homes. He reassured there was no risk the fire would spread to nearby properties.
Winter Warning for Homeowners
With colder months on the horizon, fire chiefs are urging all homeowners with open fires, wood burners, or multi-fuel stoves to get their chimneys checked and professionally swept. “Keep chimneys clean, well-maintained and swept regularly to avoid dangerous fires,” the spokesman warned.
