Historic Thatched Cottage Ravaged by Fire in Overnight Blaze
This morning, fire crews are still working hard to dampen down the remains of a devastating fire at a thatched cottage. Three teams remain on site, tackling the aftermath. Meanwhile, Cressing Road is shut between Coggeshall Road and Trotters Field, with drivers urged to find alternative routes.
Firefighters Race to Save Home and Neighbours
The drama unfolded just after midnight when crews rushed to a 15-by-5-metre thatched cottage engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the occupants escaped unharmed. However, the roof was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Damage Extensive but Disaster Contained
“Unfortunately, there has been extensive damage to a historical thatched cottage,” said Station Manager Howard Midwood. But thanks to the skill and professionalism of the firefighters, the fire was stopped from spreading to neighbouring properties and as many personal possessions as possible were saved.
“Our control room team did an excellent job coordinating the response as well.”
The cause of the fire is currently under thorough investigation.
