First Funeral for Derry Hill Crash Victim Set for This Week

The mournful goodbye begins this Friday (18/09) with the funeral of Ryan Nelson, one of four victims in the tragic Derry Hill road crash last month.

Funeral Cortege to Pass Through Calne

Ryan’s family have arranged for the cortege to drive through Calne as a moving tribute. The procession will pass Calne Town Hall at 2pm before heading towards Tesco, where Ryan worked, via the bypass.

Locals are invited to pay their respects along the route but are urged to stick to social distancing rules and avoid gathering in groups larger than six.

Safe Farewell Amid Covid Restrictions

There will be a private celebration of Ryan’s life after the service, held at a Covid-secure venue by invitation only.

Inspector James Brain from Chippenham Community Policing said:

“We completely understand that those who knew and loved Ryan want to be able to come together. But the family want to ensure this happens safely without risking public health.” “Calne will see four funerals in the coming weeks. It’s a tough time for everyone saying goodbye to beloved sons, brothers and friends. But we must prevent any Covid-19 outbreaks in the town.” “I urge everyone, especially young people in Calne, to follow social distancing and government guidelines.”

Support Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Ryan’s Memory

Ryan’s family ask that any donations in his memory be made to Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Donations can be sent via Johnson and Daltrey Independent Funeral Directors in Calne, who can be contacted at 01249 821200.

Terence Herbert, Wiltshire Council Chief Executive, added:

“This is a devastating period for the families involved. We’re working closely with the police to help them celebrate the lives of Corey, Jordan, Matthew, and Ryan safely within government rules.” “These are unprecedented times. Our thoughts remain with all those grieving.”
