Tragedy on A40: Three Kids and One Adult Killed in Horror Crash Near Oxford

Thames Valley Police are on the scene of a devastating road crash on the A40 near Oxford. Four members of the same family from Chinnor, Oxfordshire, have died following a collision between a silver Subaru people carrier and a white HGV.

Details of the Fatal Collision

  • The smash happened shortly before 10pm on 12th October near the railway overbridge just west of Oxford.
  • Emergency services rushed after multiple calls from witnesses.
  • The dead include three children – a 4-year-old girl, an 8-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old boy – plus a 29-year-old woman.
  • Two other passengers, a 30-year-old man and an 18-month-old girl, remain in critical condition at John Radcliffe Hospital.
  • The HGV driver, aged 56, suffered minor injuries.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Sergeant Dominic Mahon, leading the investigation, said:

“We’re in the early stages of this tragic probe that shut down the A40. If you were driving nearby and saw anything, call 101 or report online with ref 43200321914. Please don’t share dashcam videos online but send them straight to the police.

He urged everyone not to speculate on the cause and assured that “no stone will be left unturned” to find out what happened.

Support for Families and Emergency Services Praised

The family’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained Family Liaison Officers. Thames Valley Police extended their thoughts to the grieving families and paid tribute to officers, first responders, and medical staff who dealt with the horrific scene.

The A40 remains closed both ways as investigations continue.
