Teen Tragically Killed After Touching Live Power Line with Metal Pole in Lancashire

A 17-year-old boy named locally as Luke Bennett has died in a shocking accident in Euxton, Lancashire. It is believed a group of children accidentally touched an overhead electrical line while trying to retrieve a ball from a pond using a metal pole.

Tragic Accident at Runshaw Hall Lane

Shortly after 6pm on Saturday, March 6, emergency services rushed to Runshaw Hall Lane following reports of a child seriously injured by electric shock. Despite the rapid arrival of police, paramedics, and firefighters, Luke was pronounced dead at the scene.

Others Escape Serious Injury

Two other teenagers involved in the incident escaped without serious harm. The group had reportedly been trying to use a metal pole to reach a ball stuck in a pond when the pole made contact with the overhead power cable.

Police Launch Early-Stage Investigation

Inspector John McNamara of Lancashire Police said: “This appalling incident has led to the tragic death of a young man and my thoughts are first and foremost with his family and loved ones at this time. The family are being supported by specially trained officers.”

He added: “An investigation is underway and remains in its very early stages. I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting log 1241 of March 6.”
