12 Cars Up in Flames as Fire Service Declares Major Incident

Chaos erupted at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, when a huge blaze ripped through the second floor of Car Park 1. Firefighters swiftly declared a major incident, sending over 30 crew members from Cambridge and nearby towns to tackle the raging inferno.

Hospital Car Park Ablaze – Key Roads Shut Down

The fire gutted 12 vehicles, sending flames and thick smoke billowing across the hospital grounds. Emergency services shut down major roads including Robinson Way, Puddicombe Way, Adrian Way, and Richard Howe Way to keep the public safe. Locals and visitors were warned to avoid the area as crews battled the blaze.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far, but the scene remains tense and active.

NHS Trust Responds Amid Fire Chaos

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We are working closely with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service following the fire on the second floor of Car Park 1. Car Park 1 will remain closed for some time – please make alternative arrangements. Staff should use other car parks, and if your vehicle is impacted, we will support you to get home safely. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank everyone for their understanding.”

Fire Under Control But Crews Stay Overnight

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the flames have been put out, but firefighters will remain onsite overnight to tackle hotspots and stop flare-ups.

Station Commander Paul Clarke said:

“The fire is now surrounded. Crews worked incredibly hard to contain it and will focus on damping down and removing the damaged vehicles.”

Official Probe to Pinpoint Cause

Once the scene is safe, investigators will launch a full fire probe to uncover what sparked the blaze. Emergency crews have thanked the public for patience as they secure the site.
