Laurence Fox Suspended by GB News Over Offensive Remarks
GB News has pulled the plug on Laurence Fox, suspending the actor and commentator amid a storm over vile comments he made on air. The channel launched an investigation after Fox’s shocking jibes about Ava Evans, a political correspondent for online site Joe, were branded “totally unacceptable”.
Shock Jibes Spark Outrage
On Dan Wootton Tonight, Fox crudely asked, “Who would want to shag that?” when referring to Evans, dismissing her as a “little woman”. The clip quickly went viral, racking up over 2.1 million views and sparking furious backlash.
GB News Acts Fast – But Fox Refuses to Apologise
GB News swiftly suspended Fox “effective immediately”, taking him off air and promising a formal apology to Evans. The broadcaster said: “What he said does not reflect our values. We apologise unreservedly for the offence caused.”
Host Dan Wootton also apologised for his own poor reaction during the show, condemning the remarks as out of line with the channel’s standards.
But Fox stood firm. On social media he doubled down, saying he “stands by every word” and slammed the “woke world” for lacking humour and sensitivity to free speech.
Public Figures Demand Action
The fallout was swift. TV star Carole Vorderman and Labour MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan joined the chorus demanding a full Ofcom investigation. The media watchdog confirmed it has received multiple complaints and is reviewing the case, with a verdict due soon.
The controversy follows Ava Evans’ recent appearance on the BBC’s Politics Live, after which tensions flared.
As the scandal unfolds, all eyes remain on GB News and Ofcom to deliver swift justice in this ugly row.
