Isle of Wight Festival Causes Massive Midweek Traffic Chaos
Gridlock Hits Newport Early
The Isle of Wight Festival is in full swing, and the traffic chaos has already hit Newport — and it’s only Wednesday. Sea Close and Fairlee Road are closed for the annual event, sparking huge jams. Drivers are crawling bumper to bumper as frustration boils over.
New Cut-Through Opens but Jams Persist
To ease the hold-ups, Godric Road was opened just in time for the festival. But the “helpful” new route hasn’t stopped gridlock. Traffic is nose-to-nose from Fairlee Road straight through to the racecourse roundabout. Even 14 ice cream vans stuck in the jam can’t beat the crawl.
Cyclists and Police Aren’t Immune
The only ones moving swiftly? Cyclists weaving through the standstill. Not even the police are escaping the misery of the festival traffic nightmare. It seems no one’s getting anywhere fast this week on the Isle of Wight.
