Chaos erupted in the Russian republic of Dagestan as gunmen struck a synagogue, an Orthodox church, and a police post in a shocking spree of violence. At least two police officers were killed and six others wounded in the brazen attacks, local news agencies report.
Attacks Hit Derbent and Makhachkala
The assaults took place in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala. Derbent, famous for its ancient Jewish community, saw the synagogue and Orthodox church targeted. Meanwhile, the police post in Makhachkala, Dagestan’s capital some 75 miles away, was also hit.
