Firefighters Rush to Scene After Helicopter Hits Roof
The New York Fire Department confirmed they’re tackling a helicopter crash reported mid-afternoon in Midtown Manhattan. The chopper made a hard landing atop a 54-story office tower at 51st Street and Seventh Avenue.
One Fatality Reported in Roof Crash
Tragically, one person is believed to have died due to the rough landing on the roof of building 787, a prominent skyscraper in the heart of the city. The exact type of helicopter involved remains unknown.
Fire Breaks Out Amid Wreckage
Firefighters are currently battling flames and smoke rising from the crash site on the building’s rooftop. Witnesses nearby heard a terrifying sound moments before the incident unfolded.
“About 20 minutes ago, there was a loud noise like a helicopter flying way too low. I looked up and saw flames on the roof, and then the smoke started pouring out,” said Lance Konce, who captured footage from his office just one block away.
