Cost of Living Support Payments Hit Delay – Millions Left Waiting
Half of Eligible Homes Receive Payment So Far
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has delayed the first of three cost of living support payments until next week. So far, just over half of the eight million homes eligible for the £301 boost have received their cash.
DWP Paid Out Millions But Slows Down Ahead of Bank Holiday
This week, the DWP dished out around 1.6 million payments daily — totalling 4.8 million claimants on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But the payments paused on Thursday evening (April 27), with the DWP confirming payouts will resume on Tuesday, May 2.
“The next set of payments will be made on Tuesday, May 2, and we will update again when these have been made. If you haven’t received yours, don’t worry – payments will continue to be made until May 17,” the DWP said on Twitter.
The delay is likely due to the upcoming bank holiday on Monday, May 1, despite Friday, April 28, being a normal working day.

To qualify for this first payment, claimants had to receive qualifying benefits or Universal Credit payments between January 26 and February 25, 2023.
