Island Con Rolls Out Star-Studded Line-Up and Shines Local Spotlight!
Island Con is back with a bang, revealing a slew of big-name guests including Sean Astin, Shannon Elizabeth, and Jason Mewes. But the event isn’t just about the Hollywood heavyweights. It’s also a huge platform for local talent and businesses that keep the island buzzing.
Alex Watts Returns as Island Con Host
The Isle of Wight’s own Alex Watts is back to host Island Con after a busy year. The comedian and globetrotting YouTube producer has been busy in 2018, making a documentary on Jediism philosophy, hosting panels at VidCon California, speaking at YouTube events, and touring with collaborator Daniel Jones, discussing comedy, ADHD, Autism, and music.
“I’ve always sought to marry my love of pop culture to my comedy performances. Being part of Island Con allows me to do just that,” Alex said. “The team and ethos of inclusion, entertainment and quality production is vital to this island and I’m proud to be a local touchstone in a show with so much global draw.”

Local Artist Tony Trowbridge Makes a Splash
Returning for a second year, island urban street artist Tony Trowbridge — aka Not Dead Yet — will showcase his eye-popping pen and ink artwork at Island Con 2018. This year, zine lovers are in for a treat with an exclusive preview of The Bug Collector, an indie zine illustrated by Tony.
The Bug Collector tells the story of Tania Wu, a daytime pathologist and nighttime entomologist caught in a supernatural war between the Goddess of Chaos and the Insect King. It’s quirky, dark, and totally original.
“As an Isle of Wight resident, I was thrilled to see comic con land here last year and even more delighted it’s back,” Tony said. “It’s a much-needed boost to island morale and a fantastic outlet for our superhero creativity.”
Island Traders Bring the Goods
Island Con isn’t just about stars and artists — local traders are integral. Shops like Fantastic Store (Ryde), Heroes (Newport), Master of Disguise (Newport), and Who One (Ryde) will all be there, stocking up fans with geek gear and collectibles.
Event organiser Ben E. Belton said: “Alex was a massive hit last year and we knew we had to bring him back — he connects brilliantly with the crowd. Tony’s artwork continues to amaze us, so we’re thrilled he’s on board again.”
Ben added, “We’re proud to host this event on the Island. The tremendous support from local businesses like Fantastic Store, CEX, Red Funnel, and Visit Isle of Wight means the world to us.”
Sophie Mardle from Fantastic Store echoed that excitement: “This is quickly becoming one of the UK’s hottest conventions! The island vibe combined with Ben’s passion makes for one hell of a show. We’re buzzing to be a part of it.”
‘The Crow’ Star Rochelle Davis Joins the Line-Up
Island Con keeps getting better. Fresh off recent announcements, it’s now confirmed that Rochelle Davis, known for her role as Sarah in cult classic The Crow, will attend. She joins co-star Bai Ling, giving fans a rare chance to meet two icons from the film.
Rochelle’s role in The Crow was her first acting credit, and she later appeared in Hell House (2009). Fans won’t want to miss this exclusive appearance this October at Cowes Enterprise College.
