Hovertravel Pilot Nick Wood Soars High as LGBT Travel Pride Champion Nominee
Nick Wood, the daring Hovertravel pilot, has landed on the Travel Trade Gazette’s shortlist of LGBT Travel Pride Champions 2019. Out of 15 trailblazers, Nick stands proud for his bold work promoting diversity in travel.
Rainbow Suit, Hovercraft, and a Pride Landing Like No Other
Nick didn’t just pilot any craft – he flew a 45-tonne hovercraft decked out in rainbow flags. Invited VIPs on board, he expertly navigated the busy shipping lanes to touchdown on Ryde Sands, Isle of Wight, right by the UK’s first-ever Pride on the Beach festival. And all this while rocking a two-piece rainbow suit and cowboy hat! Talk about making a statement.
An Ambassador for Inclusion in the Skies and Beyond
“Nick is a great ambassador for Hovertravel’s commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Loretta Lale, Head of Commercial at Hovertravel.
This vibrant image of Nick on the hovercraft has become an emblem of inclusivity for Hovertravel both inside the company and in the wider travel community. Beyond the publicity, Hovertravel has spearheaded inclusion with training for agents and gender-neutral toilets.
Travel Pride Awards to Crown the Champions
The winners of the Travel Pride Champions will be unveiled on 9 July at the Queen of Hoxton, Shoreditch. With Nick Wood in the running, the skies—and beaches—are looking brighter for LGBT inclusivity in travel.
