Isle of Wight Mothercare Faces Closure as Retail Shake-Up Hits Nationwide
Shock news for parents on the Isle of Wight as the island’s only Mothercare store is reportedly set to close within the next 12 months. The confirmation comes after a leaked list revealed that Mothercare plans to shut down 50 stores across the UK before 2022.
Mothercare’s Big Store Slashing Plan
The struggling baby and children’s retailer aims to slash around a third of its outlets to stabilise the business. Mothercare says the drastic cuts will help transform the group and secure a sustainable future.
Isle of Wight’s Only Mothercare Targeted
The Island’s Mothercare, located at Gunville, Carisbrooke, was moved there from Newport High Street several years ago. The store also houses the Early Learning Centre, which once had a separate shop in Newport town centre.
While the company has yet to officially confirm which stores will close, insiders have leaked a list detailing closures in Region 4 — and the Isle of Wight store is on it.
Nearby Stores and What Happens Next
- Other stores set for closure in the same region include Guildford, Aldershot, Portsmouth, Newbury, Reading, Salisbury, Newport (Wales), Weston-Super-Mare, Exeter and Plymouth.
- If the Isle of Wight Mothercare shuts, shoppers will need to travel to their closest alternative location.
Mothercare customers on the Island are bracing for the loss, hoping for official word on any future plans soon.
