Essex Fire Crew Crowned One of UK’s Best Rescue Teams!
It’s official – Essex County Fire & Rescue Service boasts one of the UK’s top extrication teams. They took the crown at the 2019 UK Rescue Challenge, held at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue’s training centre in Ripley.
Beating the Best in the Business
Essex’s elite team went head-to-head with 23 other RTC and Medic squads from across the country. The grueling event, organised by UKRO and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, tested skills in rope rescues, water rescues, vehicle extrications, and urban search and rescue.
Top Team and Individual Honours
Not only did Essex clinch first place as a team, Officer in Charge Kevin Mitson also scored an impressive third place individually.
Kevin Mitson, from Essex Fire and Rescue, said: “It was a great result and reflected the hard work the team have put in.”
“We’ve all trained tirelessly, and it’s fantastic to see our techniques paying off. Knowing our procedures match the judges’ high standards is a real boost. These skills save lives right here in our county.”
