Kent Fire Service Unveils New Volunteer Welfare Vehicle
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has launched a brand-new lifeline for its volunteers and the public. On 4 June, during National Volunteers’ Week, KFRS introduced the Volunteer Response Team (VRT) welfare vehicle in a small but significant ceremony.
A Mobile Haven in Emergencies
This specially designed welfare vehicle is a game-changer. It’s equipped to support both volunteers and residents hit by fire and rescue emergencies. The vehicle offers a safe, comfortable space complete with seating, Wi-Fi, and essential amenities. It acts as a calm refuge amid the chaos of incident scenes, ensuring privacy and confidential support.
Support When It Matters Most
The VRT, made up of committed volunteers, provides round-the-clock help. They offer reassurance, practical aid, and guidance to those affected. From arranging contacts with agencies to helping find temporary accommodation — or just lending an ear — the team plays a crucial role in local crisis care.
Jess Antoniou, KFRS Volunteering Manager, said: “This vehicle gives our volunteers the tools they need to care for people in distress. Its versatility also means it can provide welfare facilities for emergency crews on the frontline.”
Recognising Volunteer Dedication
The launch during Volunteers’ Week highlights KFRS’s respect and gratitude for the hard work of its volunteers. Antoniou added: “Our volunteers are vital to our mission. We’re proud to support them with this new resource.”
The VRT welfare vehicle represents a strong commitment from KFRS to protect community welfare and back the volunteers who make that possible.
