Fire Crews Stage Major Drill at Historic Rochester Cathedral
Over 60 firefighters swooped on Rochester Cathedral last night in a massive fire drill. The exercise tested what would happen if flames ever broke out in the iconic 11th-century landmark.
High-Tech Gear Put to the Test
Following the devastating Notre Dame blaze in Paris, crews brought in specialist high-volume pumps and a towering height vehicle. The ladder stretched to the cathedral’s highest points to douse the stone with powerful high-pressure hoses.
Water Relay System Trials Pressure Limits
Firefighters also ran a water relay system to check pump pressure and efficiency. The big test ensured they’re battle-ready if a real fire breaks out.
“This exercise is vital to protect a treasured piece of history,” said a fire chief involved in the drill.
