Kent Police Gear Up for Bank Holiday Motorcycle Blitz
Kent Police are cracking down this May Day bank holiday to protect the county’s most vulnerable road users—motorcyclists. Hundreds of bikes are expected to roar through Kent on Monday, 6 May 2024, heading along the A21 from West Kent to Hastings in Sussex.
Extra Patrols on Major Routes
To keep the roads safe, the Roads Policing Unit will team up with National Highways officers and the Camera Safety Team. Expect beefed-up patrols targeting risky riders and careless drivers alike.
Officers will also be out engaging with motorists to remind them of their responsibilities and take swift action against those putting others in danger. “Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to serious injury in collisions,” said Sergeant Grant Steele of Kent’s Roads Policing Unit.
“We are committed to educating riders about safe riding and cracking down on drivers who speed or use mobile phones behind the wheel. This operation is about promoting responsible behaviour to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable journey.”
Cross-Force Operation Under Project Apex
This isn’t just a Kent affair. Forces from Sussex, Surrey, Thames Valley, and Hampshire are also on board as part of Project Apex. Police will engage with riders at popular gathering points like cafes and rest stops, aiming to keep holiday rides fun and safe.
New Ride Craft Hub to Boost Motorcycle Safety
Following a similar Easter weekend campaign, local forces directed riders to the new Ride Craft Hub. This online resource features expert advice from professional riders, designed to help motorcyclists cut their risk on the roads.
Keep your eyes peeled and your speed in check this bank holiday, whether on two wheels or four. Remember: safety first on the UK’s busiest roads!
