Beloved Knutsford Animal Rescue Forced to Close Temporarily
A cherished animal rescue centre near Greater Manchester has slammed its doors temporarily. Knutsford Animal Rescue in Cheshire blames a brutal mix of plunging donations and a shortage of adoptive homes.
Financial Crisis Halts Vital Animal Charity
The centre, barely a year old, is now at a “complete standstill,” leaving staff no choice but to pause all operations. Despite being on track to gain official charity status, funds have dried up fast. It had been a lifeline for abandoned and unwanted animals in the area.
“We are heartbroken to close even temporarily,” said a spokesperson. “But without financial support or people stepping forward to adopt, we simply can’t keep going.”
The rescue is part of the long-running Knutsford & District Trust for Animals, a pillar of the local community for over 40 years.
Donation Drought and Adoption Freeze
The centre faces a perfect storm: a sharp drop in public donations, soaring running costs, and a severe slowdown in rehoming. Scores of animals remain stuck in limbo, needing care the centre can no longer afford.
“We hoped charity registration would unlock grants and support, but we need urgent help now if we’re going to reopen,” the team warned.
Community Rallies, But Time Is Running Out
Locals and supporters have flooded social media with pleas for donations and adopters. Many are calling on local councils and businesses to step up with emergency aid before more damage is done.
Knutsford Animal Rescue insists the closure is temporary. They vow to bounce back once funding and adoptive homes come through.
“We’re not giving up. We know the community cares. Even a small donation, or adopting or fostering, could help us turn this around.”
