The UK has become the first European nation to top 50,000 Covid-19 deaths within 28 days of a positive test. Government figures confirm 50,365 lives lost, sparking fury from the British Medical Association (BMA).
BMA Slams Government’s Covid Blunders
The BMA blasted the Government’s handling of the crisis as a “terrible indictment” of poor preparation and chaos.
“This is a point that should never have been reached,” said Dr Chaand Nagpaul, BMA council chairman. “In March, Professor Steve Powis warned if the public followed lockdown rules, deaths could stay below 20,000.”
“Today’s figure exposes the Government’s failure: poor organisation, inadequate infection control, and confusing messages.”
“As we hope for a vaccine, lessons must be learned to stop a disaster like this ever happening again.”

Despite the grim toll, scientists remain optimistic. England’s deputy chief medical officer, Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, hailed preparations for the UK’s “most important vaccination programme in decades.”

The four nations of the UK are teaming up to tackle soaring cases. Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and UK ministers held talks with Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove to align Covid rules.

New York Clamps Down Again as US Faces Covid Surge
Across the pond, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo imposed fresh restrictions as cases and hospitalisations spike.

Cuomo said late-night socialising hotspots fuel the virus spread. “New York is a ship on the Covid tide,” he warned. The measures start this Friday.
