Drama off Sandbanks as Speedboat Breaks Down
Poole lifeboat raced to the rescue just before 5pm on Monday, August 16, after a 15ft speedboat broke down off Sandbanks.
Six Stranded Boaters Saved at Sea
The lifeboat found the stricken vessel 1.5 miles east of the harbour. Six people were on board and had tried to drop anchor, but the water was too deep. Luckily, they managed to secure themselves to a nearby marker buoy.
Harbour conditions were choppy with a fresh offshore WNW wind blowing 3-4, making the situation tricky.
Lifeboat Crew Spring Into Action
A crew member transferred to the speedboat to check on everyone’s wellbeing. Thankfully, all six were safe. The mechanical fault meant the lifeboat had to tow the speedboat back through the harbour to Poole Quay Boat Haven.
After a smooth recovery, the lifeboat returned to station by 7pm, refuelled and washed down, ready for the next call.
Poole Lifeboat Volunteers on 90th Rescue
This marked the 90th callout for the dedicated volunteers at Poole Lifeboat Station – another day they proved their worth on the water.
