Gosport MP Champions Apprenticeships in National Week Launch
Local Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has thrown her full support behind National Apprenticeship Week 2016, praising the Government’s drive to boost apprenticeship opportunities.
Apprenticeships Are Taking Off in Gosport
With 11,490 new apprenticeships started locally since May 2010, and over 2.6 million across England, Caroline says the numbers speak for themselves.
“Apprenticeships make sense for young people across Gosport,” she said. “I want to give young people the chance to get the skills they need to get on in life.”
She added that the Government’s target of creating 3 million apprenticeships by 2020 is well underway, with 348,300 new starts in the South East alone since 2010.
Apprenticeships: The Road Less Travelled
This year’s National Apprenticeship Week theme is clear: “An Apprenticeship can take you anywhere.” As more youngsters look beyond university, apprenticeships offer a fresh route into skilled careers.
New Institute to Raise Apprenticeship Standards
The Government will soon launch the independent, employer-led Institute for Apprenticeships. This body will regulate quality across England, approving only apprenticeship standards that employers truly value.
Caroline applauded local colleges and businesses for hiring apprentices, emphasising that “the opportunity to earn while you learn is a win-win for young people and employers alike.”
