Welsh Writer Daf James Unveils New BBC Drama ‘Lost Boys and Fairies’
Welsh writer Daf James is set to make waves with his four-part BBC drama Lost Boys and Fairies. The series follows Gabriel, a dazzling singer at Cardiff’s queer hotspot ‘Neverland,’ and his partner Andy as they adopt their first child.
But parenting isn’t straightforward for Gabriel. Before embracing 7-year-old Jake, he must confront a secret from his past and mend ties with his estranged father. It’s a journey packed with heart and self-discovery.
From BBC Writersroom to Prime Time
This marks Daf’s first original screenplay for the BBC, with filming kicking off next year. The project was developed through the BBC Writersroom’s 2019 TV Drama Writers’ Programme, where Daf teamed up with indie Duck Soup Films. Previously, Daf was also part of the BBC Writersroom Welsh Voices group, honing his distinct storytelling voice.
The drama will be filmed and set in Wales, with casting announcements coming soon.

“It means everything to me that this queer, Welsh adoption story has found a home on BBC One,” Daf James said. “It’s a story I’m very passionate about, and I can’t thank Duck Soup Films and the BBC enough for allowing me to tell it authentically and without compromise.”
“We are delighted to be bringing the wonderful Daf James’ extraordinary storytelling to a worldwide audience, working with the brilliant teams at the BBC and All3International,” said Jessica Brown Meek, Co-Founder of Duck Soup Films.
“Daf’s voice is utterly unique, and this story is full of heart and magic,” added Ben Irving, Acting Director of BBC Drama. “We hope it will resonate with almost everyone. We’re thrilled to have helped Daf create this beautiful drama through Writersroom, now bringing it to BBC One and BBC iPlayer.”
