Two sudden landslips have thrown Southeastern train services into turmoil, wreaking havoc for commuters heading to Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, and Ashford. The disruptions are expected to last throughout the day.
Lines Blocked Near Maidstone East and Robertsbridge
The first landslip struck near Maidstone East station, blocking key rail lines. The second hit Robertsbridge, an East Sussex village beside the busy A21, causing all trains through Robertsbridge to be cancelled.
A Southeastern spokesman revealed, “Network 1 staff discovered a landslip near Maidstone East whilst working overnight. Network Rail safety systems triggered an alarm overnight alerting staff to the landslip at Robertsbridge. Teams of engineers are on both sites, working to make the railway safe.”
Major Disruptions and Alternatives for Commuters
- The Maidstone East line toward Ashford is closed until further notice, with assessments scheduled at 10am and disruption expected until midday or later.
- No trains will run between Maidstone East and Otford.
- Passengers must change at Otford for services to London Bridge, London Charing Cross, and other destinations.
- London Victoria to Ashford trains will divert via Paddock Wood between Otford and Ashford, skipping all Maidstone East line stations.
- Replacement buses run from Otford to Ashford via Maidstone East, accepted on regular tickets.
- Robertsbridge disruption hits until at least 6pm, with no trains running between Battle and Tunbridge Wells.
- A limited service operates between Hastings and Battle.
