Massive blaze engulfs commercial building in Faversham, Kent

Fierce Fire Rages for Over 14 Hours

A huge fire tore through a commercial premises on Ashford Road, Faversham, sparking a huge emergency response that lasted more than 14 hours. Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called out at 5:37pm on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, to tackle the raging inferno.

At the peak of the operation, 10 fire engines, a height vehicle, and specialist support units battled the flames, while Kent Police sealed off the area to keep residents and passersby safe.

Specialist Gear and Drones in Firefight

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and deployed main hose jets alongside a fog spike – a tool designed to pierce walls and cool hotspots inside the blazing building. A drone was also deployed to provide aerial surveillance, helping crews spot unseen pockets of heat and focus their efforts.

Lucky Escape – No Injuries Reported

Miraculously, no one was hurt during the dramatic blaze. Fire crews stayed onsite until 7:37am the next morning to damp down the smouldering building and ensure the fire was fully out. Investigations so far point to the fire being accidental in origin.

Community Disruption as Ashford Road Shut

Ashford Road faced partial closure throughout the emergency, with locals and businesses urged to steer clear while crews worked. Services have now returned to normal, though fire investigators are expected back on site later today.

“Crews worked swiftly and effectively to bring the fire under control. The use of specialist equipment, including aerial surveillance, ensured the safety of our firefighters and the wider public. We’re grateful to our partners at Kent Police and thank the community for their cooperation,” said a Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
