Over 1,000 Fake Labubu Dolls Seized in Bexley Sting
Massive Haul of Counterfeit Toys Confiscated
Bexley Trading Standards have busted more than 1,000 counterfeit Labubu dolls, the hit collectible from Pop Mart, in a major crackdown on unsafe toys. The fakes were spotted thanks to their awful quality and missing genuine branding. Alongside these, 128 other dodgy toys were seized from two shops in the borough.
Serious Safety Risks Uncovered
The fake Labubu dolls, which exploded in popularity thanks to viral social media trends, pose major dangers to kids. Officials found:
- Choking hazards due to tiny, detachable parts;
- No proper safety testing or compliance documentation;
- Fake UKCA and CE safety markings on misleading packaging;
- Risky chemicals, including harmful phthalates.
One doll was so badly made its eye popped out when squeezed – a glaring sign of shoddy counterfeit quality.
Warning Issued to Parents and Shops
Councillor Richard Diment, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said:
“This is a stark reminder that not everything trending online is safe for children. Our Trading Standards team works tirelessly to shield families from unsafe and counterfeit goods. We urge everyone to buy only from trusted retailers and to report suspicious products immediately.”
Genuine Pop Mart Labubu figures boast a holographic sticker, QR code, manufacturer details, and exactly nine teeth. Buyers should check for these to avoid fakes. Retailers have been warned to vet suppliers thoroughly, keep traceability records, and steer clear of unverified or cash-in-hand sellers. Selling counterfeit Labubu dolls is a serious criminal offence.
