Man Airlifted After Head-On Smash in Ryde
A major road in Ryde is shut after a serious head-on crash between two cars this afternoon. One man has been airlifted to hospital with life-changing injuries.
Chaos on Smallbrook Lane
The crash happened just before midday on Smallbrook Lane, Isle of Wight. Two vehicles – a Renault and a Vauxhall – came off the road and were badly damaged. Fire crews from Ryde and Newport rushed to the scene, using cutting tools to free trapped occupants.
Emergency Services Rush In
- The driver of one car was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
- A woman from the other vehicle was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
- Several ambulances from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended the scene.
Road Closed – Police Investigate
Smallbrook Lane remains closed both ways while police carry out an investigation and clear the vehicles.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Roads Policing spokesperson said: “This is a serious incident. Drivers should expect delays as the road will be closed for several hours. Local diversions are in place.”
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
