Tragic Death in Lewisham Flat Fire

A man has died after a fire tore through a first-floor flat on Venner Road, Lewisham, in the early hours of Tuesday, February 18. The blaze broke out just before 6am, sparking a fast response from fire crews.

Swift Fire Brigade Response

The fire was quickly brought under control by 7:16 AM.

Despite their rapid intervention, a man was found inside the flat and treated by London Ambulance Service paramedics before being rushed to hospital. Tragically, he later died from his injuries.

Investigation Underway as Cause Unknown

LFB confirmed only a small part of the flat was damaged. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with fire officers working closely with local authorities.

“Despite the rapid response of our crews and the efforts of London Ambulance Service, this incident has had a tragic outcome,” said an LFB spokesperson. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.”

No other injuries were reported, but nearby flats were evacuated as a precaution. Lewisham Council and local support services are now helping affected residents.
