A 64-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to gross negligence manslaughter over the death of eight-year-old Jay Cartmell, who was fatally shot on a farm in Warcop near Appleby, Cumbria, on 28 September 2024. Allan Thursby appeared at Carlisle Crown Court charged with unlawfully killing the boy. The case has sparked a police investigation into the fatal shooting.
